Ageing, Art and Creativity Symposium

All those interested in the transformative potential of the arts in enhancing the lives of older adults are invited to attend the in-person 'Ageing, Art, and Creativity' symposium to be held on the Sunshine Coast on Monday 18 September.

Hosted by the convenor of the new AAG Creativity, Art and Design in Ageing special interest group, Professor Evonne Miller, this event offers a line-up of local and international speakers who will share the latest in research, policy, and practice. Attendees will:

  • Understand the value of the arts and design in ageing research, policy, and practice
  • Develop practical and impactful strategies for deploying arts-based approaches in research and practice
  • Engage in workshops, gaining hands-on experience

AAG 500 blog: The importance of creativity

In this month's AAG 500 blog, we consider why creativity matters more as we age than ever before. AAG member Dr Tricia King from the School of Business and Creative Industries at the University of the Sunshine Coast explains how the transformative power of the arts is intrinsically linked to our overall health and wellbeing.

If you're interested in creative methods to positively transform the experience of ageing, join AAG's new Creativity, Art and Design in Ageing special interest group. For those in the area, come along to the one-day Ageing, Art and Creativity symposium on the Sunshine Coast on Monday 18 September (details above).

Don't miss out: NARI and ARIIA

We don't usually combine announcements, but there are two for Friday 15 September 2023.

The National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) is holding its annual summit in Melbourne on Friday 15 September. Under the theme of 'Menopause and Beyond: Promoting Older Women's Health and Wellbeing', a terrific line-up of presenters and panellists will focus on health issues faced by women as they progress through menopause and beyond and how age and gender intersect with other social determinants to impact older women's health and wellbeing.

Also on Friday 15 September is the closing date for Round 8 applications to ARIIA's Innovator Training Program (ITP). The free ITP provides tools and skills to use knowledge and evidence to solve a workplace problem. Up to $2,000 per participant (plus GST if applicable) is available to the employing organisation as a contribution to salary costs.

Round 8 training will be delivered throughout October and November 2023, with multiple delivery schedules available. ARIIA is offering two training options in Round 8:

  • Individual ITP - Solve any workplace problem that aligns with an ARIIA priority topic
  • Themed ITP - Innovative approaches to retain aged care workers

Early Bird Registration closes
tomorrow 8th September!
